Hardware guide

GETTING STARTED / REAL HARDWARE

Your Commodore.
Your configuration.

Can your real hardware run the current AIS4CBM BASIC 8 graphics viewer? Choose your equipment and see what is ready, what needs changing and what is still to confirm.

This checks the equipment you select, for the current graphics build. You will also need a compatible 80-column display and a way to load the AIS4CBM disk, which includes BASIC 8. This page does not detect or test connected hardware.

The interactive checker needs JavaScript. You can also use the hardware guide to check the requirements.

Equipment choices

Try an example

Start with a sample, then change any choice below.

01 Computer and video memory

The flat C128 and plastic C128D originally have 16 KiB of VDC RAM. The metal C128DCR has 64 KiB.

Choose 64 KiB if an upgrade is fitted. REU memory does not expand the VDC. See the VDC upgrade.

02 Expansion memory

Selecting Ultimate-II+ covers both expansion memory and the live-feed connection. A physical REU supplies memory and needs a separate interface.

03 Connection to the live feed

The current build uses SwiftLink-compatible serial input.

Results update as you change your choices.
